How to use student discounts?

  • Bring your student ID with you

Every college student should have a standard student ID card in their wallet. This is the University ID card you get when you first register for a course. It's free with your student card and you get a range of discounts. You'll often find it working its magic with local companies and larger stores as it proves you're a legitimate student. This card isn't widely used for online student discounts, but you should be able to use it freely on the high street. Keep your student ID with you. You never know when an opportunity to save money will present itself.

  • Upgrade to a student discount card

A very popular student discount card is the NUS card. This is a discount card run by the National Union of Students. It allows students to save a lot of money when buying high-street brands. Only need £12. That's actually not a lot of money considering you'll save £500 a year.

To register for an NUS card, you need to visit totum.com to register. To get this card, you need to follow these steps:

Look for totum.com - When you click on the site, look for the "Get Your Card" button and select it.

Enter your details - this includes your email address and course provider.

Enter your course details - for example, what you are studying and for how long.

Select the card you want - for example, you can add additional cards.

Personalize your card – choose a photo and add your personal details.

Paying - Student discount cards can cost money. Don't worry, though! When you use a discount card, your savings will far exceed what you spend on the discount card.

  • Use your student discount in life

You might think this tip is a bit odd, but the fact is that many of the students we interviewed don't use their standard student ID cards regularly to get the discount.

Student discounts have been implemented across the country to allow students to spend normally when money is tight. For students on a budget, this could mean even more surprises.

Remember, it's not just high street stores that offer student discounts. You also get money when you eat out, takeout and restaurants.

  • Ask if the store offers a student discount

Just because a brand doesn't advertise that they offer student discounts doesn't mean they don't.

For whatever reason, some places don't advertise that they offer student discounts, but are still happy to hand them out.

Of course, not everywhere will comply. But if you don't ask, you won't get these surprises.

  • Get student discounts on top of deals

Most of the time, you'll have to choose between a great deal and a student discount

You might be able to stack student discounts with seasonal sales and Black Friday deals.

If you have to choose between the two, do the math which option will save you the most money.

  • Use your student discount online

Annoyingly, your university-standard student ID card doesn't always qualify for online discounts. Even TOTUM cards are sometimes limited. But in fact at PROMOPRO, we will find the latest student discount codes for you, making it easier for you to get these offers.

  • Using the Student Discount Abroad

If you plan to study abroad for one year, or are lucky enough to take a vacation, you can also take advantage of the student discounts there.

These days, most major cities will accept your regular uni ID for student discounts. However, having an internationally recognized student ID ensures you are covered.

Previously, you had to pay to get the ISIC add-on for the TOTUM card. But, the good news is that TOTUM student members can now get one year of ISIC membership for free.

  • Find student discount promotions

Some larger brands choose to double their student discount percentage during certain times of the year. This can involve some serious savings.

ASOS is one of the largest websites. They often double the student discount to 20% multiple times throughout the year. But few can come close to Pizza Hut, which previously raised its student discount from 20% to 40%!

These boosted discounts are only available for a limited time, so keep an eye out for them. We will provide you with the latest news on a regular basis~
